Research Shows Reliability of Solar PV Water Pumping Systems with Helical Rotor Pumps

A research group in Egypt evaluated a solar-powered water pumping system using helical rotor pumps for domestic, agricultural and village supply.

The system comprised two 4.6kW PV arrays, 7.5kW AC motor, helical rotor pump, well and 15kW inverter. Testing showed solar intensity impacts efficiency – above 900W/m2, higher temperatures decreased efficiency.

But overall, the helical rotor pump system operated efficiently. In December, March and June, it achieved average discharges of 18.2, 22.2, and 22.8 m3/hr respectively, with 7-8 daily operating hours. Total water pumped was 129-181.8 m3.

The researchers concluded that with proper design considerations, the solar PV system with helical rotor pumps can provide stable, reliable off-grid water supply. Factors like consumption, static level and pipe sizing must be incorporated.

Such solar pumping systems are a viable, eco-friendly alternative to polluting diesel pumps for irrigation and village needs. Helical rotor pumps maximize renewable energy use for efficient pumping. With rural electrification challenges globally, solar systems present a sustainable solution.

Yami‘s advanced helical rotor solar pumps are optimized for high reliability and performance in harsh environments. Our robust pump design handles tough pumping conditions, providing efficient water access using just the sun’s power.
